The Fort Collins cycling community has had two racers go down in two separate crashes. With both riders ending up in the hospital and both, at least partially caused by gravel on the road. On Tuesday, Loveland resident and Blue Sky Velo rider, Ryan Sahd crashed during the Taft Hill Time Trial. Ryan was heading south on Taft when he swerved around a jogger and cyclist and apparently hit some gravel and lost control. Ryan was taken to PVH by a passing motorist where he received treatment for his injuries. On Thursday Ryan underwent surgery to repair a broken collarbone, separated shoulder and torn ligaments. Ryan's bike is ok. Updated Just after Wednesday Worlds, veteran rider John Holcomb of the Peloton Specialized Cycling Team was turning into his subdivision when he washed out on a patch of gravel. The riders that were with John at the time of the accident did what they could to make him comfortable while they waited for paramedics to arrive. John suffered a broken femur, collarbone and road rash in the accident. John underwent surgery today (Thursday) to repair his broken hip. His bike only had a few scratches on the shifter.
